Königsberg Forts: Fort No. 5
A ring of 19th-century brick forts surrounds the city. The best preserved, Fort No. 5, is an open-air museum.

Fort No. 5 “King Frederick William III” saw some of the heaviest fighting in April 1945 and is now a military history museum.
You can walk through casemates and along the ramparts.
More forts are being opened to visitors — in 2026 the region plans to open Fort No. 3 as a cultural centre.
Tips
- Casemates are cool even in summer — bring a jacket.
- Wear sturdy shoes.
- It is on the way to the coast.
