Four parts of the region

Only here

Things you won’t find anywhere else

Only here →

A small region where sea and lagoon, Gothic brick and dunes fit into 200 kilometres.

Amber capital of the world

Over 90% of the world’s known amber reserves are here. Yantarny has the world’s only industrial amber quarry, with a viewing platform.

Dunes between two waters

The Curonian Spit (UNESCO): the Baltic on one side, the lagoon on the other. From Efa dune (60+ m) you see both.

World’s first bird observatory

In 1901 the world’s first bird observatory opened in Rossitten (today Rybachy). The Fringilla station still rings migrating birds in 70-metre traps.

Kant’s tomb

Immanuel Kant lived and is buried in Königsberg, beside the 14th-century cathedral.

The Dancing Forest

Pines twisted into rings and loops — still unexplained.

Home of the Trakehner

The famous horse breed comes from Prussian Trakehnen.

    Before you go

    • Current travel advice. Many governments currently advise against travel to Russia. Read your government’s latest travel advice before planning.
